The Internet's "supposed" Biggest Security
Given this BGP routing vulnerability, clearly one must treat the internet as it is open air. If encryption, authentication and authorization are provided by upper layer protocols running on trusted devices the value in hijacking data for purposes other than disabling another network deminishes. This allows your routers to recognize the data is going no where and redirect the traffic without the need to sign bgp requests.
